United Polio Survivors Foundation, Ltd
An Ethiopian female polio survivor, Etsegenet Legess Lakew, a
founder of the organization initiated the program and has succeeded
to shape the organization vision, mission and strategic objectives.
She came to realize very soon the multifaceted discrimination of
people with polio in Ethiopia both by positive and negative ways of
discriminations. In all terms, the culture by itself is a taboo for
persons with disability that they by no means can enjoy the flavor of
life in any social system. Therefore, as they are totally segregated
from all development program and social participation in all activities
most of them have become the most marginalized poor people in the
country.
The founder of UPSF, knowing the deep rooted discriminating
traditional practices in Ethiopia, has come to decide to open up
country office for UPSF in Ethiopia making Addis Ababa its Head
Office.
The founder of UPSF is dedicated to helping polio survivors in
Ethiopia.
