Oromia:
The total population is 27,303,994 of which 13,625,998 are males and 13,677,996 are
females. Administratively, the region is divided in to 12 zones, 180 woredas and there are
564 kebeles in 375 towns. They constitute about 33 % of the total population of Ethiopia.
The oromo people are made up of several sub groups who vary in their cultural outlook
and livelihoods, most of them speak the east Cushitic languages Affan Oromo (Oromo
Language). There are five main groups of Oromo; the Western Oromo live mainly in
Wellega are, the Northern Oromo live in Shoa and some areas of Wello; the Southern
Oromo consists of smaller sub groups, the Eastern Oromo live in Harerege area and the
last Oromo grouping live in southern part of Ethiopia (Borena) and across the Kenya
border.
Southern Ethiopia:
The southern Ethiopia has 9 zones, 5 special woredas 77 woredas and 49 towns. There
are 3,804 farmers' associations in rural areas and 213 kebeles in 149 towns. The
population is 15,321,001 of which 7,618,998 are males and 7,702,003 are females.
Dire Dawa Administration Council:
The population is 412,000 and there is equal number of male/female. 68 % of the
population resides in the urban areas and the remaining 31.2 percent is living in rural
areas.
